Free & Fun Things for Travel Cath Lab Techs to Do in Florida

Discover the sunshine state beyond the tourist traps

Florida isn’t just a top destination—it’s a dream assignment for many travel healthcare professionals. With year-round sunshine, stunning coastlines, and no state income tax, it’s easy to see why so many travelers choose to work here. But between theme parks, pro sports, and endless attractions, things can get pricey fast.

The good news? Florida is packed with free and meaningful experiences that let you soak up its beauty, culture, and charm—without spending a dime. Whether you're solo, with your crew, or just looking to recharge, here are some unforgettable ways to enjoy the Sunshine State:

Wander through florida's nature preserves

Florida is home to over 55,000 acres of protected natural beauty. From birdwatching to spotting gators in the wild, nature preserves offer a peaceful escape and a deeper connection to the land. Favorites include Wakodahatchee Wetlands  in Delray Beach, Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive near Orlando, Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge along the Space Coast.

Whether you hike or drive, these spots are perfect for slowing down and soaking up Florida’s wild side.

Explore free museums

Florida’s museums are as diverse as its landscapes—and many are free! Some cities, like Orlando, offer free museum weekends, so keep an eye out. Some of the most popular free museums include The Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, The Holocaust Memorial, and The National Museum of Naval Aviation (where you can what the Blue Angels practice!). Find a full list of free museums here!

Visit botanical gardens

Florida’s tropical climate makes it a haven for lush gardens. One of the most popular gardens is the West Martello Gardens and Fort in Key West, which features both a blooming garden and a historic Civil War era fort that you can explore. Another gorgeous botanic garden in Florida is the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo, which is in the Tampa Bay area. This garden fills an epic 182-acres with blooming flowers and exotic flora and fauna. Not to mention, they're pet friendly!

check our an award-winning farmers market

Florida’s farmers markets are full of fresh produce, handmade goods, and local flavor. They’re also a great way to connect with the community. Some of the most popular farmers markets in the state include the Jacksonville Farmers Market, the Lakeland Downtown Farmers Curb Market, the Sanibel Island Farmers Market, and the Winter Garden Farmers Market.

kayak through natural springs

Take a dip in one of Florida’s refreshing natural springs or paddle out on a kayak in search of gentle manatees. Most springs are tucked inside state parks with a small entry fee, but you’ll also find a few hidden gems that are completely free. Some favorite spots include Little River Springs, Royal Springs, Kelly Park/Rock Springs, Wacissa Springs East of Tallahassee, or Rum Island Spring on the Santa Fe River!

bike scenic trails across the state

Biking or walking is always a great way to get outside and explore. In Central Florida, the West Orange Trail offers 20+ miles of paved paths, much of it winding along abandoned railroad tracks. A highlight is pedaling right through downtown Winter Garden—a charming small town with character, cafes, and fun stops along the way. Head further south and you’ll find the Pinellas Trail, nearly 38 paved miles that stretch from St. Petersburg to Tarpon Springs for a laid-back ride through Pinellas County. And if you’d rather get off the pavement, Florida is home to over 1,400 miles of National Scenic Trails—perfect for discovering hidden corners near your assignment.
